Stories about comic Pryor by his daughter draw tears [click for more at Denver Post]
The memories that Rain Pryor shared about her father, the late comedian Richard Pryor, and his battle with multiple sclerosis, had quite an impact on the Women Against MS Luncheon attendees. Her stories elicited peals of laughter and rivers of tears from the 500-plus guests who helped raise an estimated $205,000... Pryor, star of the award-winning, one-woman show "Fried Chicken and Latkes," which draws on her African-American and Jewish heritage, recalled that her father "wasn't a Cosby or a 'Leave It to Beaver' dad. He was more like Ozzy Osbourne - and that was on a good day. But he was definitely my dad and there was no one like him. I loved him for all his parts good and bad, and he loved me." Growing up in a family where her father was a well-known celebrity and "Mom was a Jewish go-go dancer" helped her to realize she was destined to become a performer, Pryor said. "Once he knew I was bound for the stage, my dad ran out and got me a rainbow-colored Afro wig and a toy microphone. My sister (Rain was the middle child of Pryor's seven kids) got a trust fund.".... |
